CS2 Observer Setup for Broadcast
Configure your CS2 observer station from scratch. Spectator mode, GSI setup, observer HUD in OBS, and coordinator communication workflow for tournament broadcasts.
Observer PC Requirements
The observer PC runs CS2 in spectator mode and is typically a dedicated machine in tournament productions. Requirements: Windows 10/11, CS2 installed, stable wired network connection to the game server, and a monitor at least 1080p for clear game view.
CS2 Spectator Mode Configuration
To observe a CS2 match, you need access to the game server with a spectator slot. For tournament play:
- Connect to the server with the spectator password:
connect IP:PORT; password SPECTATE_PASS - Enter spectator mode via the scoreboard
- Use
spec_mode 4(free-roam camera) orspec_mode 5(first-person lock) from console - Useful observer binds:
bind MWHEELUP spec_next,bind MWHEELDOWN spec_prev
GSI Setup on the Observer PC
If CutROOM runs on the same machine as the observer's CS2 instance, GSI setup is identical to the standard installation — CutROOM auto-configures the GSI file on setup.
If CutROOM runs on a separate production PC, the GSI config file must point to the production PC's IP address instead of localhost. Edit the GSI config file and replace 127.0.0.1 with the production PC's local network IP.
Observer HUD in OBS
The observer uses the CutROOM HUD browser source to display player stats, bomb location, and economy data while observing. Add the HUD browser source to the observer's OBS scene as a second monitor output, or use a physical second screen to display the CutROOM dashboard directly.
Many tournament observers prefer to display the CutROOM dashboard on a second monitor for direct eye-level access, rather than overlaying HUD data on their game view.
Observer Workflow with Production Coordinator
Professional CS2 productions use a push-to-talk communication channel between the observer and the production coordinator. The coordinator calls upcoming scene transitions, flags key moments, and directs the observer to specific players before picks happen.
CutROOM's production panel includes a round-state indicator that both the observer and coordinator can see simultaneously, helping them stay synchronised on game state without verbal confirmation.
