Why Use a CS2 Radar Overlay?

The radar overlay is one of the most tactically valuable tools in a CS2 broadcast. It gives viewers a bird's-eye view of the entire map, showing all 10 player positions simultaneously — something impossible to communicate with a single observer camera. A radar overlay lets viewers track rotations, predict engagement, and understand the strategic picture while the main camera focuses on the action.

What the Radar Overlay Shows

• Player positions — All 10 players shown as colour-coded icons (CT blue, T orange)
• Player names — Configurable name tags on hover or always-visible
• Bomb location — Bomb carrier highlighted, bomb site radius shown when planted
• Alive / dead state — Dead players are greyed out automatically
• Facing direction — Player icons rotate to show current facing angle

Radar Overlay Placement in OBS

The radar overlay is typically placed in a corner of the broadcast frame — bottom-left is the standard position. It can be displayed at any size and positioned anywhere in your OBS scene layout. Many productions show it only during active rounds and hide it during the buy phase.

Tactical Analysis Use Case

The radar overlay is especially valuable for tactical breakdown segments. Casters can reference the minimap to explain a team's positioning, call out a rotation mistake, or highlight an eco round buy pattern. Pausing on a radar screenshot during a replay segment is a staple of professional CS2 analysis.
